How quickly can I get started?
Getting started with ClickSpotter is easy. It doesn't take more than 5 minutes to do so. Simply sign up, use either a voucher, PayPal or a Credit Card and within minutes you will get the JavaScript code to track the clicks.
To see the results of the clicks, you'd have to wait a couple of days. The more you wait, the more data you will get about the click-patterns. We recommend to wait 2-3 days (depending on the traffic and amount of clicks) to see some sensible data from ClickSpotter
How does it work?
When you sign up, you get a little piece of code (JavaScript) which you can paste to the HTML Source Code of your website. This code will register whenever a users clicks on your site and send the coordinates along with a few more parameters (which site, which browser, which campaign etc.) to our servers. We will keep track of all the clicks and generate heatmaps out of them.
Why is this not a free service?
Tracking and generating heatmaps requires quite a powerful server infrastructure. We need to be able to cater for thousands and thousands of clicks every day and need to be able to analyse them on the fly to generate our pretty heatmaps. In order to cover those costs, we need a small monthly fee. We think, this is a fair fee and you will get much more value out of it.
I don't have access to my homepage code, how can I use this?
Let us know who your hosting company is or who built your website. We will get in touch for you for free and ask them, whether we are able to put the JavaScript code at the bottom of every page OR if they can put the code in the page for you. You don't need to get involved. We manage all this. All you do is check out the heatmaps at your convenience to see how the click patterns change and your site gets optimised.
Alternatively, you can also just give us your FTP details or access to your content management system (CMS) to add the code.
Does it work with Flash sites?
ClickSpotter registers clicks in Flash sites, however depending on the nature of the site, ClickSpotter may not be able to check on which button the user actually clicked as the position of it may change within the flash. ClickSpotter can only register the position of clicks if the elements of the website do not move about or appear and disappear without changing the page URL. If you are unsure about whether ClickSpotter can be used on your page, either try it out for free or ask us by getting in touch.
Does it work with AJAX pages?
AJAX just like Flash pages pose similar issues tracking the user's behaviour. Just as with Flash, we can track every single click and it's position, but if the elements of the website move about, we cannot tell which element the user has clicked on. You can find out easily if the site is supported by having a look at the URL bar of your browser. If it changes with every click, we are able to track the clicks. If it doesn't, the click data of similar page views get mashed up in the same view. If you are still not sure about whether ClickSpotter can be used on your page, either try it out for free or don't hesitate to drop us a line and ask. We'll be able to tell you if it works or not.
